Hey William -

We dont actually pay to keep ads out - but we could. A lot of people dont realize just how big the forum buisness is. It's a multi billion dollar buisness a year. It's used quite a bit by buisness too. So, let's say I hosted a networking seminar that people were going to pay for, and I had 8000 paying members - you can see how fast shit spins outta control when the servers go down.

The longer this goes on(as of 8 a.m. ET Wed 6th it still is)the more it concerns me. These backups should not take this long. Add the fact that they are not being forthcoming at all about what is going on doesnt really help either. Buisnesses move their data from one cloud to another all the time without interupption.

We honestly have around 15 or 20 people who contribute on a regular basis and have since we started about 3 years ago. We have ammassed quite the body of work with contributions from a bunch of others too. The Review Club, especially, is what I am most concerned about. We have reviewed several hundred shows and in some cases as many as 10 or fifteen per show - shit adds up quick. I always talked about saving those reviews in an alternate spot besides the forum - but never did. Hopefully we get them all back and that will be that.

The funny thing is William, that stuff is incredibly valuable to me. Just the sheer quantity of time alone invested into these reviews is pretty mind boggling. Needless to say - once this mess is straightened out I'm going to back up all the stuff and start considering hosting our own thing. Forumup has proven themselves as garbage, and if the transition is not too bad Im gonna dump them for a new host.

To actually answer your question, Transitive Axis is the name of our forum and we have several members who frequent here as well. We have the option to pay quarterly to get rid of all advertising, but we do not. We just keep it free and deal with all the BS. Using Firfox with adblock makes it not so bad.

Dude, keep your fingers crossed for me please. I really dont want to loose three years worth of work just like that.

Thx; yup, I would hope that ea individual saved his/her contribution...? These days, just txt is easy, as in compared to music files, you could save all sorts of crap as word/pdf docs, etc., without using much space. But, that's not having it all in one repository, nor accessible.

When I first came here I copied and saved all sorts of stuff that I read (by others), but over the yrs I lost it...I actually do have a print out of all the 4-5 star shows from 68-71, though!? In case the LMA ever goes under they can contact me...

Good luck w it.

If I write anything of any length, I always save a copy to my hard drive. Learned to do that after LSP self-immolated and its moderator reappeared here as a totally different person.
